Affordability Mindset: Prices May Be Higher, AND You Still Have Choices

We hear a lot about the rising cost of living.
Housing, groceries, insurance, cars, childcare, and so many other expenses may cost more than they once did.
That is real.
And we still have choices.
Both can be true.
We may not control what something costs, but we can control how we respond. Our choices may not always be easy or fun, but making thoughtful decisions can give us something important: peace.
Last week, we talked about the beliefs that can influence our financial decisions:
“I work hard. I deserve it.”
“Everyone has a car payment.”
“My kids should have what their friends have.”
This week, let’s look at affordability differently.
Before deciding whether something is truly affordable, ask yourself:
1. Does it fit into my finances today?
Can I pay for it without relying on debt, dipping into savings meant for something else, or creating stress in another part of my budget?
2. What am I choosing to give up?
Every financial decision involves a tradeoff. Saying yes to one thing may mean saying no, or “not yet,” to another goal.
3. Will this choice bring me peace?
Something may technically fit into the budget and still not be the right choice. Does it align with what matters most to you and the future you’re working toward?
Being able to buy something and being able to truly afford it are not always the same.
Something to think about 💭
What financial choice is within your control right now?
One small action ✅
Choose one purchase or financial decision you’re considering and walk it through all three questions.
You can’t control prices AND
You can make choices that help you move forward with greater confidence and peace.
